The United Nations General Assembly designates 24 January as the International Day of Education, recognizing education as a fundamental human right, a public good, and a shared responsibility for societal progress.
📚 Without inclusive and equitable access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities, the world cannot hope to achieve gender equality and break the cycle of poverty. Currently, 250 million children and youth remain out of school, with 763 million adults grappling with illiteracy. Their right to education is being violated, and this is unacceptable.
🌍 The theme for the sixth International Day of Education, on 24 January 2024, is “Learning for Lasting Peace.” In a world grappling with violent conflicts, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, and hate speech, a renewed commitment to peace is paramount.
